Hunt and Gather Market Wrap Up

Despite a change in the weather last Saturday, the amazing performers of the National Music Academy Family amazed the on-goers of the previous Hunt and Gather Markets in Pacific Park. Among the stalls of boutiques goods and food, in front of the Splash Pad fountain, you could find the NMA Stall where our performers played sweet music through the electric atmosphere. The Academy has regularly been providing performers to this eclectic market for the past 3 months, providing live market performance opportunities to not just our talented students, but also our fantastic teachers.

To start the day of performances was the immensely talented Yasmin Ling, a regular gigger of the NMA family. This StarStruck Veteran and member of the National Music Academy Featured Artist program showed her incredible vocals and performance ability, with her guitar by her side to give the early morning market goers and great show.

Up next we had our amazing one-on-one teacher and choir leader, Kate Smith singing some of her favorite covers and originals. Kate has been a long time member of the Academy Staff, a talent from Triple J Unearthed and was picked to be a part of Newcastle’s next Raw Natural Born Artists event: Motif. You can find her gigging around town and selling her EP ‘Day Dreams’.

Following Kate we had our resident Loop Guitarist, Mitch Cordingley. This one-man-band creates interest and catchy multilayered songs with percussion, chords, bass, solos and harmonies, all using his guitar and his trusty pedal. Mitch is a student at the academy as well as a part of our Admin team. As he has just finished his HSC, you can expect to see him gigging around town in the coming months.

Straight after Mitch we had one of our newest members of the NMA family, Jeremy Bilson. This piano teacher serenaded the on-goers of the midday market atmosphere with his smooth vocals and piano. He has been a regular at local venues like Scratchely’s on the Wharf, La Costa in The Entrance and Battlesticks Bar in Honeysuckle. You can find his 6 track solo studio EP ‘Head Above Water’ on iTunes and Spotify.

To end the day we had the hardworking and talented individual who is Rachel Maria Cox, who blew the audience away with her talent and ended the day of music on a highnote. A member of many bands, you can find her performing alongside ‘Paper Thin’ and ‘Self Talk’ as well as at the upcoming ‘Not Fest 4’.  Aside from her large gig schedule, she is also founder of Sad Grrls Music Festival

If you missed out on the combination of chill vibes and grovy music at the latest Hunt and Gather Markets, fear not! As our next appearance is at the Sunset Gather on 3/12 will have a showcase of our amazing talents and students. Hope to see you there!
